About Comprendo

Some documents change your life.

A lease that determines where you live. An insurance form that affects your health coverage. A government application that shapes your future. A contract you have to sign to start a new job.

These documents matter enormously. And yet most of them are written in a way that really shouldn't be this complicated.

Why I built this.

I built Comprendo because I've seen what happens when people are handed important documents with no real way to understand them.

I grew up with ties to El Salvador and have spent much of my life connected to immigrant communities in the United States. I've watched people — brilliant, capable, hardworking people — stare at a document and feel completely stuck. Not because they weren't smart enough to understand it. But because legal and financial documents are written in a way that benefits the people who write them, not the people who have to sign them.

There's nothing natural about the way these documents are written. Plain language exists. Simple sentences exist. Whoever drafts these contracts simply chooses not to use them.

I've seen this frustration in immigrants trying to navigate a new country. In first time renters signing leases full of clauses buried on purpose. In patients handed consent forms in waiting rooms with no time and no guidance. In everyday people trying to make sense of something they're expected to sign on the spot.

Most people can't afford a lawyer every time they need to read something important. That never sat right with me. So I decided to build something about it.

What Comprendo does.

Comprendo reads any document and explains what it says — in plain, conversational language that respects your time and your intelligence.

Upload a lease, an insurance form, a government application, a contract, a medical bill, or subscription fine print. We break it down section by section, highlight terms worth a closer look, and let you ask questions about what the document says.

Available in English and Spanish — because understanding a document shouldn't depend on what language you grew up speaking.

Who Comprendo is for.

Comprendo is for immigrants navigating a new country. For first time renters signing their first lease. For patients trying to make sense of a medical bill. For freelancers reviewing contracts. For small business owners. For students signing their first apartment agreement.

For anyone who has ever been handed something important and thought — what does this actually mean?

In other words — for everyone.

Why we charge.

Comprendo is not free beyond the first document — and we want to be transparent about why.

Keeping Comprendo accurate, private, and running requires real infrastructure and real costs. We deliberately kept the price as low as possible — $2.99 per document, or $9.99 for a bundle of five — because accessibility was always the point. We kept it as low as we could while still covering the real cost of running the service accurately and privately.

The first document is always completely free with no credit card required. We want you to experience Comprendo before you ever spend a penny.

We'd rather be honest about what it costs to run a product like this than pretend it's free while finding other ways to profit from your data. We don't sell your information. We don't store your documents. We simply charge a small fee for a service we believe is genuinely worth it.

What Comprendo is not.

Comprendo is not a law firm and we don't give legal advice. We help you understand what a document says — clearly and honestly. For any significant legal decision we'll always encourage you to consult a qualified professional. That's not a disclaimer we hide in the footer. It's something we believe.

Your documents are also never stored. The moment your analysis is complete your document is permanently deleted. What you share with Comprendo exists only long enough to help you — then it's gone.

The company behind it.

Comprendo is built and operated by Shepherd Digital Co. LLC — an independent technology company based in Virginia. We're small by design and built around a simple belief:

Understanding what you sign shouldn't be a privilege. It should be a given.

We're just getting started.
